Yeah it was a wee bit scary at times as they run quite quick don't they!

Apparently the rut last through to the start of November, and it can be more interesting towards the end as the bigger stags are tired - that right or is it internet mumbo jumbo?

Nice one Sami, hope your OK after the fall,I know what you mean by intimidating. Last Thursday evening as I was walking back down the hill the herd was straddling the path, there was no way I was walking down the path with the Hinds one side and the big Stag the other, after about 20 minutes another Stag appeared do while they were preoccupied I made a quick exit down the path.

While BigHair is away, gwynna will play with her lens
Unfortunatly I left it a bit late for any decent photos and forgot my tripod  so very grainy shots but lots of bellowing around the moor. Nearly fell over this guy when stumbling back to the car, wish I'd seen him earlier.

Very nicely done Gwynna

I think we should start a Deer only thread, haha

Anyway, here is my favorite from tonight, this is by far the closest i have got to a big stag yet (no cropping)

Firstly, good job getting a kingfisher in flight (i still haven't even got one sat still, so i'm very jealous), but i think i would have preferred to see it with it's wings outstretched in a more classic flight pose

Also, is it a heavy crop as it looks a little fuzzy/soft around the bird

What you need to do is to drop down to a crop frame sensor to gain more reach then Jeff ;)

Since it was tipping it down this morning i didn't head over to Big Moor for the deer, but i did go to Shillito Woods late morning, and it was certainly worth it as i got a personal first, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, i'm well chuffed as this chap was certainly shy, had to wait a good hour till i could get a decent full profile shot of him

Didn't know you were there this morning. I've been meaning to go all half term but I just never got round to it so decided yesterday that I'd go today at sunset. Almost turned back as it was so cloudy but glad I didn't.
I didn't see any rutting either; still were in smaller groups with two groups on either side of the path and then others presumably over the ridge as I could hear them bellowing but I only went as far as the adder wall as I'd left it a bit late as we didn't park up until 330 and the sun sets at 430!
