If you have taken a macro shot which you are proud of, pop it in here.

Can we try to keep this to "small things photographed big" as I know a lot of macro lenses infinity focus.

Where possible include what it's a photo of, where/when you snapped it and the camera/lens you used; this way we can build up a little bank of example images taken on different cameras/lenses - and in the future maybe others can use these as a resource when choosing equipment.

Post as many times as you like, but can we avoid posting more than 3 in a row to make the content more mixed.

What's minimum focal distance in that lense? Either way it's very good!

Hi Tom, the spec shows 31 cm which I've never found to be a problem. This is the old sigma 105 macro which is no longer made as I believe the newer HSM OS version replaced it, but that's a bit pricey.

Heres a shot I took over a year ago. I basically carried out a tutorial I saw in a magazine. I forget which one. Its quite a simple image to get, however it is time consuming to setup. It consists of a bowl of skittles or smarties, with a cd case or glass pane sitting above and some drops of water placed carefully on the glass. I used some books to adjust the hight of the pane of glass so that you get a pleasing refraction of the sweets in the droplets. I then set the camera up above the bowl and glass on a tripod although you may be able to hand hold the camera and I had a flash setup off to one side. After some trial and error I ended up with this.

not sure these are "macro" but definitely small-things-looking-big

p.s... I only have a standard Nikkor 18-55mm mounted on Nikon D90, so all taken hand held with that

Thought I would add a quick macro shot from last year. My garden was absolutely full of hoverflies so I had plenty of opportunity to practice creeping up on them and getting some decent shots. For a change of pace, I decided that in flight shots were the order of the day and spent a few hours chasing them all around to get this one shot.

Setup using the Schneider 50mm f3.5 on macro bellows with a 2x teleconverter and then a short extension tube to get the level of magnification I required at a working distance of just under 4 inches.

I would have liked to get a bit more depth of field but this was the best I could get all things considered. Shot on the D300s at f3.5 1/250th ISO100 with fill flash. The image has not been cropped just basic level adjustments and resized etc...

Great shot there Glyn, but how the hell do you set up for a shot like this, i presume its all mounted on a tripod, so is it just a case of setting up and waiting for it to fly past the lens

I'm into wildlife photography and i have to be patient on occasions, but there is no way i could be this patient

Thanks Richard, patience is one of those things that I do have lots of, I can wait for hours in one spot to get the shot I want, not that it always works out lol.

I'll be honest, I never use a tripod for macro shots, I just find they get in the way and slow me down way too much so I end up missing the shot I want. What I do tend to do is find an insect/bug and follow it around, get myself into range and then just track it. I do look a bit funny sometimes I know, but for me it's the only way.

Wow, i don't think i'd have the patience (or skill) to do that, it's one thing tracking a bird in flight, i couldn't imagine trying it on an insect from 4 inches away

I think it's more luck than skill sometimes with macro, I've had plenty of missed focus shots tracking fast moving insects
