The original plan for our March outing to Mam Tor was to meet at the Mam Nick car park at 9.30am, stroll up to Mam Tor Summit and then maybe head over to Blue John's Cave. Then someone pointed out that Mam Tor is an excellent place to watch the sun rise and that, being March, we were getting to the end of 'sunrise season', meaning from this point onwards sunrises would happen too early for us to be bothered getting out of bed to capture it.
So, we put the word out that a few of us would be meeting at 6.15 am and heading straight up to the summit to watch the sunrise. That turned out to be a smart decision because not only did we witness a majestic moment when the sun popped over the horizon but also the weather took a major turn for the worse around 8.30 and the rest of the day had to be called off due to horrible wind, rain and fog.
Mam Tor is one of our region's real treasures; the views are spectacular and the sight of the sun rising over the Hope Valley is something out of this world. Here are some of our photos from the beautiful, windy and exhausting March morning.
The props that distinquish us from the ramblers.
And for something a little different....
And finally, a stitched panorama
Terrible weather and struggled with lens flare
